PERSONALITY

A bright and cheerful program, Yui was made to boost the morale of SAO players. However, hopelessness was a contagious feeling, and as she monitored all the depressed players of the game, she too began to succumb to the dark clutches of despair. However, meeting Kirito and Asuna changed all that. Despite her young looks, she has the personality of a child - sometimes even like a baby.

Growing on to the comfort and affection of her adopted parents, she responded in kind. Yet, she is not weak nor afraid in the face of danger. In fact, she has occasional bouts of rebellion and recklessness which causes great worry to Kirito and Asuna. Young in heart and loveable, it is no wonder how she captured the hearts to those around her.

HISTORY

Yui's official name is <<Yui-MHCP001>> (Mental Health Counseling Program 001). She is an Artificial Intelligence program made to monitor the mental health of SAO players. Programmed with the ability to mimic and interact with those players, she spent her time during just that, boosting their morale with her cheerful personality and childish tactics. However, since the moment everyone was imprisoned in the first dysfunction of SAO, she was forbidden to come in contact with the players and complete her prime objective.

Suffering through her inability to help those depressed, trapped game players, Yui thought about giving up. The hopelessness was contagious, even to her. Yet, when she came across a certain pair - Kirito and Asuna - she realized that they were different. The emotions that projected were those of possible joy and peace, even in the pits of dark despair. Seeking them out, she came to them as a lost child who seemed to have lost her memory at the forest in the 22nd floor of Aincrad. They adopted her, and she, too, shared in their trials and tribulation, and also in their quiet happiness.

At the near end, Yui defeated The Fatal Scythe, but such an action would cause her deletion for disobeying the system's commands. The effort was found out, and she was to be erased by the Cardinal, SAO's management system. As she felt her life support slipping away, she reached out and expressed her gratitude to her beloved "Papa" and "Mama". Unbeknownst to her, Kirito quickly saved her by copying her data into his own NerveGear, as a tear drop item in his inventory. It wasn't until he activated her in ALO that she came back to life, back to the people whom she had come to love.

In ALO, the cheerful fairy used her abilities as a Private Navigation Pixie to help Kirito and Leafa find Asuna. Later on, Kirito made a device for her so that she can perceive and interact with them in the real world. In short, Yui brings her own unique light of happiness to the world of SAO...and beyond.
