PERSONALITY

Machi is a very timid individual, often shying away from populated areas and avoiding contact with strangers if she could help it. Though she seems quiet and reserved at first glance, Machi is also gullible and gifted with a big heart. Because of her big heart, she's often driven to go out of her way to stick her neck out for others. She often worries too much for those around her and tries to offer what she can in terms of help. Machi tends to speak with a tone of patience and softness. She's easy to fluster and is deeply embarrassed about it. Having always been a gentle person, she finds it difficult to approach others on her own freewill.

Machi's nature in game is the same as her nature in the real world. Being a newbie only makes her reactions to situations worse. Despite all of the timid aspects of her personality, Machi is the kind of girl that easily finds admirable traits in others and appreciates them. Even though she was no longer a child, she still found herself constantly learning from those around her.

HISTORY

Kanajo comes from a broken home, but doesn't seem spiteful or upset about it. Her mother walked out on her and her father when her father was struggling with illness, but she understands that her mother was probably overwhelmed and could not handle it. For being so young, the girl has come to terms with a lot of things. When SAO was first released, Kanajo's father who worked with a gaming company had purchased the software and game itself to play. During the first mishap, Kanajo never left her father's side at the hospital. He'd made it through, remarkably and she made him swear never to play again.

Since then, her father has passed from a repeat of the past illness and Kanajo now lives by herself. Having found her father's box containing the software and outdated game, she's since updated and is discovering Sword Art Online for herself. Part of her hopes to find something of relevance to her father, the other part just wants to escape from the real world after work. She works nights as a bar singer and exotic dancer to pay the bills and save up for a higher education. It's not something she's proud of by any means.
